Room 518 Brad Hoesing & Kyle Stevens - Wausa Staff Mr. Hoesing, K-12 Principal, & Mr. Stevens, 9-12 English Instructor from Wausa high school will showcase the Wausa Common Language of Instruction guidelines. Mr. Hoesing will go over the process in how they developed their common language of instruction, and Mr. Stevens will demonstrate various APL instructional strategies that fit into Wausa's common language of instruction. We will share information about how we got community buy-in, how we wrote curriculum with teachers and businesses, our course offering requirements, capstone course development, and changes that were necessary to establish the structures for this 6th-12th grade program. Blended Learning - LINK Room 511 Molly Aschoff - ESU 8 Come learn how a Blended Learning environment can engage your students and empower their learning. We will take a look at what blended learning is and how easy it is to get started….you may find that you are already doing many components of blended learning in your present classroom. We will look at how a blend of traditional instruction in combination with online instruction can transform and improve the learning process. Early Childhood/PBIS Room 510 Jessica Demerath, LMHP, LPC, RPT An overview of Positive Behavior Support in the classroom to identify new techniques and interventions to reduce challenging behaviors for all students including special populations. Learn how to identify new interventions to Prevent unsafe, destructive, disruptive or inappropriate behaviors for students where typical interventions have not worked. Learn Teach strategies to address problem behavior by encouraging our children to develop more appropriate ways of behaving that will replace their problem behavior. Learn how to Reinforce appropriate behaviors to increase positive interactions and learning in the classroom. 9-12 English/Language Arts Standards - LINK Room 504 Tricia Parker-Siemers - NDE This session will focus on the newly adopted Nebraska English Language Arts Standards. Information will be included about the revision process, the significant updates, and support materials that will accompany the new standards. There will also be time for questions and input on needed resources and tools. Strategies that work with English Language Learners - LINK Room 405 Cynthia Alarcón & Dee Condon - ESU 7 Classroom teachers will explore strategies based on Classroom Instruction that Works with English Language Learners needed by ELL students to access subject matter. We will analyze and apply the 5 Stages of Language Acquisition, Nonlinguistic Representation, and Cooperative Learning strategies. Flipped Classroom Room 508 Jason Ayers & Lorie Summers - NPS Finding and meeting the needs of all students is a difficult task for any educator. We believe a balanced approach is very important to meet the needs of all students. We are not experts on the flipped/blended classroom, but we will share our experiences and resources we have used over the last several years. Our experiences focus on the area of math at the seventh and eighth grade level, ranging with students from special education classrooms to advanced placement classrooms. |

Professional Learning Communities in Action at the Secondary Level - LINK Room 516 Michael Hart, Jake Luhr, & Chris Mueller - NPS Staff This session will take participants deeper into the workings of secondary PLC’s. Participants will learn and understand the critical characteristics of an effective and efficient secondary PLC team. Additional topics will cover how the process of building common assessments establishes a viable and guaranteed curriculum for all learners, and we will focus on the importance of group dynamics in establishing effective PLC teams. This session will also focus on how teams in different buildings work together to build horizontal and vertical alignment of curriculum and essential skills. Room 415 Cyndi Rotter-Hansen - Battle Creek Public Schools Most schools across our nation have literacy or reading comprehension as a student performance goal. We are no different. This breakout session will focus on tried and true reading strategies that teachers across all grade and content levels can use in their classrooms.
